With the warmer weather last week, it was time to pull out the scooters and the sidewalk chalk.
We also decided that Thursday was perfect zoo weather. We enjoyed the zoo train and carousel and running around the wide open spaces almost as much as seeing the animals. We discovered the lions, although in their indoor enclosure, sensed that spring was in the air. The hippos were swimming (also indoors) and for a while there, we felt like we might like to join them. The bears, on the other hand, were outside, and didn't look convinced that their hibernation was over. Pictures to accompany these words reside on the camera instead of my phone; I'll attempt to add them soon.
During the spring showers today, we revisited the zoo, building a toy zoo in the living room (pictures sadly lacking), and a virtual zoo on the computer (Zoo Tycoon).
Other tidbits from the week: we visited with Mormor and Grandpa; we saw some amazing balloon sculpture and generally had fun at the Purim carnival yesterday; Remy picked some seeds and a vessel in which to grow them from the garden store on Saturday, while Eddie chose an African violet; we've read more Warrior Cats as well as some Mr. Putter and Tabby and selections from our children's magazines; played games-mostly from physicsgames.com, but also a selection of other computer and video games, and some created from our own imaginations.
Now it's starting to sound like a fun and busy week. This is a good process for me, to remember all the fun we've been having. Sometimes, in the moment, it is overwhelming, or frustrating, or feeling like we're "not DOING anything". What I want to remember are the happiness and the laughter. Happy children are learning (whether we notice or not).
To help me remember, I'll plan to update this blog about weekly.
